Abatha Maqsood: World’s First Hijab-Wearing Cricketer
Abatha Maqsood World’s first hijab-wearing Muslim lady. she was born on 11 June 1999 in Glasgow, Scotland United Kingdom. Abatha Maqsood is playing The Hunderd for Birmingham Phoenix she joined the Phoenix in 2021 as a right-handed leg spinner and right-handed batsman. Abatha playing for Middlesex, Sunrises, and the Scotland Nation Team since June 2018, when she named was to Scotland’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament. She made her Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) debut for Scotland against Uganda Women in the World Twenty20 Qualifier on 7 July 2018.
Biography
Abatha Mahin Maqsood plays cricket wearing the Hijab. She is a practicing Muslim and follows the Islamic obligation, to keep fasting in Ramazan and performing prayers five times a day. Abatha belongs to a Pakistani immigrant family.
Abtaha is one of Scotland’s most promising leg-spinners. Aged 11 she joined her local cricket club, Poloc, where she continues to play for now. After playing club cricket for just four months, in October 2012, Abtaha was called up to train with the Scotland Women’s Under 17s team. She debuted against Ireland for the Under 17s at the age of 12 where she bowled in a T20 match and took her first wicket for the Under 17s.
she is a sportsman-loving lady who plays cricket representing her national team and also representing her country in taekwondo in the Commonwealth Games 2014. She has a black belt in taekwondo. Maqsood played for the Scotland women’s national cricket team in the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in February 2017.
