The premier allrounder has retired from playing Test matches as well as T20Is but did say in the media he wanted to play ODIs only.

Shakib, over his Twitter account, said that he will be retiring from playing ODIs after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Shakib missed the last series against the Afghanistan Team and has again opted out of the series against the West Indies Team. This will be the final assignment of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team before it embarks on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel member eventually confirmed Shakib Al Hasan’s absence during the West Indies series. He informed Cricbuzz: “He (Shakib) is not available for the ODIs against West Indies and we have prepared our squad accordingly,
Someone from BCB was rather direct in mentioning that Shakib isn’t having clear thoughts in his mind, and it was not the right situation for the all-rounder to be in to play. According to one source, the cricketer spoke to them recently:
“Considering his head, we thought Shakib isn’t in a good condition to play. Playing franchise cricket isn’t the same as donning the national jersey.”
There were reports that He would represent Galle Marvels in the upcoming Lanka T10 League which is taking place from 12th to 22nd December, while Bangladesh plays against the West Indies National Cricket Team in an ODI series. He was a Platinum Player in pre-draft selection for this tournament.
The announcement of squad for Bangladesh National Cricket Team isn’t far off. However, they are waiting on medical reports regarding Najmul Hossain and Towhid Hridoy. The two are running away from groin injuries. However, BCB was positive that they would be participating in the series to some extent.
The first ODI match between the two sides is on 8th December, followed by the second and third on 10th and 12th respectively. These ODIs would be played in St Kitts. Thereafter, during the 15th, 17th and 19th, three T20I matches would be held in St Vincent.
